Today’s poll is for 2009′s “Producer of the Year”. This year we were treated to quality production from some new, up-coming producers like Mick Vegas, K.E., & Lex Luger. While, long-time DGB favorites Drumma Boy, Fatboi, & Zaytoven continued their outstanding work by adding even more classics to their resumes. Add in Alabama’s Block Beattaz of Slow Motion Soundz and you have the 7 nominees for DGB’s “Producer of the Year”. So check out some of each producer’s finest work for this year & place your vote on the right side of the blog.
FYI: The poll I had posted yesterday for “Video of the Year” disappeared, so I had to re-do it. Please vote again, thanks.
Shouts to BLVD ST for putting me onto the Block Beattaz late last year when G-Side’s Starshipz and Rocketz dropped last November. They continued in 2009 with some outstanding work on G-Side’s Huntsville International. Hopefully in 2010 more artists (outside of Alabama) take notice & do some tracks with ‘em so that they can get the attention they deserve.
ST 2 Lettaz (G-Side), 6 Tre G & AC – “Feel The.. (Chris Brown)”:
G-Side Ft. Kristmas – “Rising Sun”:
Not much needs to be said about this producer. After having a great 2008, Drumma started off 2009 by releasing the Drum Squad mixtape, Welcome II To My City, Part 2. He then went on to produce some of the best tracks on Gucci’s new album (as well as some of his better mixtape tracks from this year).
Gucci Mane, Three 6 Mafia, Project Pat, Yung Joc, & OJ Da Juiceman – “Never Too Much” (Remix):
Gucci Mane – “My Worst Enemy”:
Black Shield’s Fatboi had a breakout year in 2009. Since the release of Gucci’s first single, “Wasted” he has gained a lot of mainstream success & doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon.
Gucci Mane – “Hurry”:
OJ Da Juiceman – “Time Clock”:
Since producing FLY’s “Swag Surfin” last year, K.E. has basically created his own sound that so many producers are trying to copy. Lately, he has been working with a lot of the younger artists from ATL (Roscoe Dash, La The BoomMan, etc).
J.Futuristic Ft. Young Jeezy & Shawty Lo – “First Name, Last Name” (Remix):
J.Futuristic – “Deep Cover”:
Lex Luger is probably the youngest of all the producers on this list. I never heard of him until “Hard In The Paint” by Waka Flocka dropped towards the end of the summer. At first some people were saying he was just a “Shawty Redd / D.Rich clone” but that talk quickly died out. As there’s no doubt that he produced some of the hardest beats from 09. Recently he has handled most of the production for Waka Flocka & OJ Da Juiceman’s newest mixtapes.
Waka Flocka – “Hard In The Paint”:
OJ Da Juiceman – “Early Morning Trappin”:
Mick Vegas (DJ Burn One’s production company) has made a lot of noise in 2009 with that classic Country Rap Tunes sound. He has provided All Star, Young Buck, Pill, G-Side & most recently G Mane with the production to some of m favorite tracks from 09. And with more tracks on the way w/ Starlito, Alley Boy & Freddie Gibbs, it’s safe to say that Mick Vegas will be a nominee once again at the end of 2010.
Young Buck – “Bury Me Alive”:
G Mane – “Boyz N Da Hood”:
Zaytiggy has come a long way since producing Gucci’s first hit “Icy” back in 2005. He’s gone from a mixtape producer to one of the south’s most popular & successful. Plus with an upcoming album placement on Usher’s new album the sky is the limit for Zay.
Gucci Mane – “Fresh Out”:
Young Jeezy – “Trap or Die 2″:
Some other notable producers from 2009 are: Coop, Juicy J, The Future (J.A.), Nard & B, J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League, Supa Villain, Shawty Redd, Mouse, Fate Eastwood, Hot Rod, The Colleagues & jCOOP.
